The Cone of Shame, Part II

You might recall from a while back that I photographed images for KVP International's catalog... yes, the maker of the cone of shame. Well, oops, I did it again. The shoot took place in Malibu where we met before the sun came up along with rangers who let us in the gates. That's what you get when you have a permitted shoot. No hassle and needed amenities, like parking on the grounds. For the previous year, we photographed among the hills of Malibu... golden grasses, mountains, oaks. Very wild California. For this year's catalog, we were at Carrillo State Beach. We had a blast... the dogs took to their cones like trained models... they weren't but they didn't need to be. And we got photos in ...

Nekkid Cats -- The Sphynx and Lykoi Photo Shoot

The Cone of Shame, Part II

A friend of mine, Jayne Harrower, has a cattery in which her specialties are Sphynx and Lykoi cats. OK, for the uninitiated, Sphynx are hairless cats while Lykoi are known as the werewolf cat... they are a completely naturally occurring cat, not a designer cat, and they are awesome in their unusual look, which includes sparse fur on the top and almost no fur on their undercarriages (undercarriage may not be a technical term... that's what I call my cats' bellies). Jayne is breeding Lykois and she will have the first of them available in 2016. So exciting! For more information, I have a previous post about Channing, the Lykoi.Jayne's cats just had a few litters of kittens and she invited me ...

The Cone of Shame, Part II

I had an enormously good time photographing Seamus, the mastiff, and Maddie, the yellow lab. Their owner, Tracy, wanted one of my studio shoots, which worked out great on the day we scheduled the session because my car was already going to be loaded with studio equipment from a headshot shoot I had earlier that morning. On my drive over, I was actually thinking that, gosh, I'd really like to find a place that has willow trees because they are so majestic and flowing, they would look great as a backdrop to shooting dogs.Well, when I pulled up to Tracy's house, she had a greenbelt right in front of it that had pink pepper trees, which are very much like willow trees in the flowy/showy ...

Teddy, the Ridiculously Handsome Ragdoll

The Cone of Shame, Part II

I just finished shooting cat portraits at the Kat Knappers Cat Show in Arcadia (where I met my first Lykois... earlier post... they are the werewolf cats) and it is time to present the incredibly handsome Teddy, whose real name is Magnadolz Integrity. This handsome ragdoll is the apple of Sharon Shulby's eye. She has a cattery in Manhattan Beach and when she says they are magnificent, she means it. She has raised grand champions. All ragdolls have blue eyes, the deeper the better, at least as far as showing them goes. They are a pointed breed... you know, like the Siamese, with the darker fur on their face, legs, tail and ears. Ragdolls come into their full growth when they're about ...

The Cone of Shame, Part II

Look, I have a lot to say about this photo shoot, it was so great. But I can only show you a sneak peek until I write a full blog about it. Bear with me, because it's going to be good. But can you imagine dressing cats --first of all, dressing cats, for a calendar? That's what we did last week in San Luis Obispo. A major production. So just for now, is a collection of the cats.More on this later...  BEST Pet Photography Subscribe to the Modern Pet Portraiture Newsletter – Never Spammy! * indicates required Email Address *First Name        Last Name
