The Swimming Border Collie of Ross Castle

I posted the dog and the moon photo on Facebook last week and the place went crazy! I just wanted to show you that one and tell you how I created it.There are two ways to look at the Storytelling Sessions. One, we create a set and props to make it look like your dog is in a story. Or we place an image of your dog on a background and the result tells a story. As you saw with Luna in a Moroccan setting. Both have to be photographed well, don't get me wrong, but creating the second one means lighting it in such a way we can remove it from a backdrop, then place it in the setting. The dog in the blue portrait is Olive and she was photographed against a plain backdrop. As a terrier, she looks ...

The Swimming Border Collie of Ross Castle

Back from a trip to Arizona, hated to neglect my blog! So I raced home yesterday (raced being not quite the operative word since a bridge closure added an extra two hours on an already 10-hour drive) because I did not want to miss Moo's 25 percent off sale to get new pet photography marketing material. I loaded everything onto a portable hard drive so I could take it to Arizona with me to design it, packed up my computer, then... forgot the hard drive. But hey 25 percent off sales are what I live for when it comes to my marketing so I had to get back in enough time to design my new material. My pet photography has been taking different twists and turns lately and it's hard to convey ...

The Swimming Border Collie of Ross Castle

Last year, Hope for Paws asked me to photograph a pit bull mother and her four puppies that Eldad Hagar and his team rescued. I was happy to do it and actually had two photo shoots with Lexi and her puppies. This weekend, I went to The Little Red Dog's Founder's Day (TLRD fostered the puppies and mom until they were ready to be adopted) in Lake Forest and Lexi, Cooper and Beamer were there! I really don't think they recognized one another. But it was great to have them reunited.Cooper is being raised by Jennifer and Jeff Harmell, who adore him. Beamer is brother to an older, protective sister named Sydney and is owned by Mark and Denise Needham. And Lexi, who was the first of all five to be ...

The Swimming Border Collie of Ross Castle

It's of Carina, the absolutely charming Maltese I wrote about in my last post. I finally got a chance to show it to her mom Janice. She laughed, she cried, she loved it! I want to share it with you. It's a little different from those I usually create, mostly because there are two sessions combined into one, so we used two songs. And I interviewed Janice about Carina for something different I was going to do but the audio quality I got from the Rode lavalier mic for the iPhone I used was so good I decided a few snippets here and there would just make the video better. It's really a fun video of our pet photography sessions and even though there are two photo shoots on here, it does give you a ...

The Swimming Border Collie of Ross Castle

Dudley is my neighbor dog and I adore him. He is a pit bull mix probably with some boxer thrown in as he has a tall, lean body. He is the apple of his daddies' eyes. Last week, the L.A. Times called and said the paper was putting together a pet resource guide and that I would be in it as a pet photographer and they wondered if they could take pictures of me at a session. I knew if I let my reticence overwhelm me, they would just offer that opportunity to another dog photographer so naturally I had to accept. I mean, it's the Los Angeles Times, for corn's sake. But I didn't want a photographer interrupting an actual session so I turned to my fabulous neighbors Dustin and Chris and asked if I ...
