The First Rule of Fight Club...

Cats, Cats, Cats!

I recently photographed four Savannah cats and a kitten for a client. There were four dogs involved, too, but we won't go there. It's not necessary to talk about them on a Savannah Fight Club post. The First Rule of Savannah Fight Club... you don't talk about dogs.Anyhow, Savannahs are a little wild, you know. They're a cross between an African serval and a domestic cat. They're gorgeous. Long legs, beautifully spotted fur. And they can be a little tough. As one of my friends says, cats play with feather toys. Savannahs destroy them. The whole shoot was on gray seamless paper. To get their attention, we brought out a few feathered toys. The Savannahs liked that. So we ended up getting a lot ...

My High-Flying Bird... I Mean Cat

Cats, Cats, Cats!

You know I'm always referencing old rock 'n' roll songs in my blog. Today's title comes from Elton John's "High Flying Bird." OK, now I have to play it while I write this. So in this storytelling image, Kiwi is an old timey aviator. I had this image in my mind since May and finally pulled it off this week. I had the physical elements I needed for quite a while -- his bespoke aviator hat was crafted by Amélie of ToScarboroughFair, who makes the most excellent cat chapeaus, and a custom silk aviator scarf made by Kate of Le Beau Cou Scarves. Both of these ladies do outstanding work. The reason it took so long was because I was really dreading putting the hat on my boy. He's pretty ...

Cats, Cats, Cats!

One of my clients breeds Sphynx and Lykoi cats and I get to go up every few months and take some photos of the kittens. My client lets me do anything I want with them, which is a lot of fun. The thing about Sphynx cats is they are so sculptural. Absolutely gorgeous. Where fur hides the folds of most cats, with Sphynx, you really see every nook and cranny, every little detail. They are fascinating creatures, almost alien in their appearance. In this session, we had one kitten that was a split odd-eye. An odd-eye by itself is one eye is one color, the other is another. Like David Bowie's eyes were except in this case instead of gray and brown, they were green and blue. So a split odd-eye ...

A Cat with a Little Texture

Cats, Cats, Cats!

I just revisited this image of Zombie, a Savannah cat l I met at one of the Arcadia cat shows last year. I did a cool composite of him for his owner Kelly. But today I reworked it and added a little texture. Not much to say here but Zombie sure has some reach! Hallelujah!Ready for your photo shoot? Give me a call, I'm waiting to hear from you! 818-481-5214

Cats, Cats, Cats!

A friend of mine, Jayne Harrower, has a cattery in which her specialties are Sphynx and Lykoi cats. OK, for the uninitiated, Sphynx are hairless cats while Lykoi are known as the werewolf cat... they are a completely naturally occurring cat, not a designer cat, and they are awesome in their unusual look, which includes sparse fur on the top and almost no fur on their undercarriages (undercarriage may not be a technical term... that's what I call my cats' bellies). Jayne is breeding Lykois and she will have the first of them available in 2016. So exciting! For more information, I have a previous post about Channing, the Lykoi.Jayne's cats just had a few litters of kittens and she invited me ...
