Don't Miss Our Annual Holiday Shoot on Nov. 21

A really fun type of photo shoot is exploring different parts of the city with the owners and their dogs and my session with Eddy and Phoebe was a particularly enjoyable one. We started at NoMad in downtown Los Angeles. Except for a few shots in the bar, in which I believe Phoebe, the golden doodle was a little under age, we couldn't use flash in the rest of the hotel though we were allowed to shoot. And even though it was bright daylight outside, it was dark inside which made it more challenging without the extra lighting.Eddy ordered a Manhattan for himself and Phoebe stuck to water... once we photographed the bar area, we went to the seating area in front of the restaurant, then went ...

Don't Miss Our Annual Holiday Shoot on Nov. 21

I belong to HeartsSpeak, an organization that encourages photographers to help shelter pets find their new homes by having the animals become visible through imagery. On July 13, HeartsSpeak, Los Angeles County Animal Care Centers, Rita Earl Photography and Shelter Me embarked on a unique collaboration called Seen=Saved Los Angeles that enabled every single adoptable animal in the LA County shelters to be photographed by 200 photographers. And for that weekend, adoption fees were waived!I immediately signed up when it was announced, I was so excited. I've photographed many adoptable animals in the past and my hope, along with everyone else's hope, is that the images would help these animals ...

Don't Miss Our Annual Holiday Shoot on Nov. 21

I just had the most fun week where we managed to photograph I think 11 dogs over five days of shooting. It was just so great, starting at the Jesus Wall Studio on Sunday with two clients we booked for those sessions... it included a tortoise! Then we had one of our Grammy bag recipients give us a call and we created an Eeyore-inspired composite for her differently abled dog named Eeyore. You know, Eeyore floating through the air attached to a red balloon? That one. And we photographed brother Roo as well.Next we were on to a Mother's Day gift card... this one had three dogs... a Greyhound, an Italian Greyhound, and a Pomeranian. We got great images of Bentley, Shadow and Baby individually ...

Don't Miss Our Annual Holiday Shoot on Nov. 21

My publisher, Familius, just sent out its Fall 2019 catalog and our "Dogs Vs Ice Cream" book is in it! It's real and coming to a bookstore or pet store near you soon! It's very exciting! Very colorful! Okay, I'll calm down now. You know, I have really loved this project. I've written before that it was seven ice cream socials for dogs in August and September in which we photographed 192 dogs and cones filled with Purina's Frosty Paws doggy ice cream. I used Frosty Paws original because I wanted all the ice cream to be uniform in color -- like vanilla. I've used others that have pretty colors but I just wanted them all to be one color and Frosty Paws is very easy to find. And we just used ...
