The Boys Assist Me in a Pet Photo Shoot

I came up with an idea one night.. how orange kitties get their color. It had to do with Cheetos. I thought to myself, that's a good idea, I need to write that down. And then I forgot completely. But I woke up with the idea I had an idea and tried to remember it. And then it came to me again. My neighbor Cheryl has an orange kitty, Henry Grant, but he was a little too big. But not long ago, I photographed my neighbor Leslie's litter of kittens she was fostering. Each girl was different than the other -- black, gray with a cream paw, seal point, tortoiseshell and an orange tabby. And I thought, that little orange kitten would be the perfect size. I contacted Leslie but -- and I say this in ...

The Boys Assist Me in a Pet Photo Shoot

We adopted our two cat boys, Mango and Kiwi, from the shelter in June. We couldn't believe our luck! Friendly cats!Well, it turns out these two boys, whom we call the Gentlemen House Cats, are not so gentlemanly. Gentle is not a word to describe either of them.Kiwi, especially, is a fierce sofa and rug scratcher. The first couple of weeks, we protected our plushy wool rug with sheets and the sofa corners with foil. How beautiful that was. We took out our rug and replaced it with an indoor/outdoor rug from Overstock, a completely cheap one, so that if they did their claws on it, so be it, it was cheap enough there would be no tears from us. The moment we did that, they ceased clawing on the ...

The Boys Assist Me in a Pet Photo Shoot

Now if you're a faithful follower of this blog, and who is really? you know I adopted two long-haired cats from our local shelter back in June. You should have seen the look on the East Valley Animal Shelter volunteer's face when we said we wanted adult cats, a bonded pair would be awesome, and black was a preferable color. Because kittens? Everyone wants the kittens but the adults are much harder to adopt out. And black? Honey, the shelters are just full of black animals. There is a superstition about them. But I grew up with black animals and am very partial to them. Black is beautiful. There was the big long-haired black Mike. He had been in the shelter as an owner surrender so long he ...

The Boys Assist Me in a Pet Photo Shoot

All right, straightaway, I will tell you I just adopted two cats last weekend... Mango and Kiwi. They are both long haired, both three, both boys, both gorgeous, both super sweet and friendly. They are unrelated to each other. Only one's photo will be posted today.Mango is very outgoing but has been the shyer of the two but even if he goes under the bed, he doesn't stay hidden. Kiwi acts like he was born here. Both learned their new names almost immediately and can discern one name from the other. Even if the names are a bit fruity, I think they prefer the new ones to their old ones at the pound... Mike and Bobo. Really?I am very fond of the both of them. Honestly, in all the years I've had ...

The Boys Assist Me in a Pet Photo Shoot

Yeah, I'm about to brag. I just got back from Thailand! Wow, what a wonderful country! From the people to the food, Thailand is an amazing place. We did a nine-day tour in central Thailand, which included Bangkok, Kanchanaburi Province, and Ayutthaya, which has so many ruins, it puts Rome to shame.Thailand is colorful, warm, harsh, beautiful, friendly, dangerous, fragrant place. Bangkok holds on tightly to its charms but they are there... in the riverside, temples and the tranquility that you might find at somewhere like Jim Thompson's house.Kanchanaburi has the history of the Death Railway (who can't get the theme to "The Bridge Over River Kwai" out of their heads?), the confluence of two ...
