Kiwi the Clown

It's a Wrap for the Ice Cream Social for Dogs, 2018

Kiwi is my clown boy. He is just so amusing, I can't even stand it sometimes. His brother Mango, both adopted in June, is a serious fellow but Kiwi is a mischief maker, king of the roost, an escape artist, very athletic yet totally chill. And incredibly handsome, that little tux. He was around 3 when we got him from the local animal shelter. He came in as a stray. Figures, he's always trying to get out of the house. But someone's loss is our gain because he has just added so much to this household with his completely charming, clownish ways.I took a few pictures of my boys a couple of weeks ago, including this one of Kiwi. In the original, which is on this blog, Mango is photobombing him. ...

How a Kelly Clarkson Concert Inspired a Renaissance Puppy Portrait

It's a Wrap for the Ice Cream Social for Dogs, 2018

Creativity comes out of the strangest places sometimes. I was at a Kelly Clarkson concert the other night and she had giant video screens that projected images depending on the song. One song she sang was called "Nostalgic" and the images had that scratchy, Super 8 film look to them. I thought, wouldn't it look cool if I did something like that with pet photography? Now of course, I could just add a Super 8 texture in Final Cut Pro X or I could even shoot a video with a Super 8 film app. That's a very modern thing to do, that vintage thing. So I decided to try my hand at creating something and it totally ended up completely different than the inspiration. Now this little guy was one of the ...

It's a Wrap for the Ice Cream Social for Dogs, 2018

This dog... I can't even... she is just too much. Look at this face! Just look at it! She's this taupe colored shar pei (is taupe even a color for dogs?), somewhere between gray and brown. And she has a little face like a rhino. She's 7 and lives with her parents, Natalie and Jon, and brother Winston, a shar pei/boxer mix (mostly boxer, if you just look at him).We had a pet photography session back in February, a surprise birthday present from Natalie to her husband Jon. They are just the funnest couple, they really are. They wondered if their dog obsession was bordering on lunacy. Of course not! Never enough obsession! This post I'm just featuring Bailey because Winston is having a special ...

It's a Wrap for the Ice Cream Social for Dogs, 2018

So in December, I photographed Seamus and Maddie. Seamus is what his owner Tracy calls "the ridiculously photogenic mastiff." And he is. I put a call out on my Facebook page (oh please stop by, it's fun there!) for a dog model and Tracy volunteered Seamus. What I was looking for was to add to my growing collection of "I Love L.A." shoots. This is where we go to an iconic place in Los Angeles and have a quick photo. Sometimes these aren't particularly long sessions... we're going for one thing that works... and that was the case with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art photo shoot at the Urban Light sculpture. That place is popular. Tons of locals and tourists all jam around the lights to ...

One Night in Bangkok

It's a Wrap for the Ice Cream Social for Dogs, 2018

Yeah, I'm about to brag. I just got back from Thailand! Wow, what a wonderful country! From the people to the food, Thailand is an amazing place. We did a nine-day tour in central Thailand, which included Bangkok, Kanchanaburi Province, and Ayutthaya, which has so many ruins, it puts Rome to shame.Thailand is colorful, warm, harsh, beautiful, friendly, dangerous, fragrant place. Bangkok holds on tightly to its charms but they are there... in the riverside, temples and the tranquility that you might find at somewhere like Jim Thompson's house.Kanchanaburi has the history of the Death Railway (who can't get the theme to "The Bridge Over River Kwai" out of their heads?), the confluence of two ...
