A Favorite Family of Mine

Amanda reminds me I've known her for 12 years. That's a long time! I first met her when I was taking a lighting class and she was the makeup artist hired for the workshop. I liked her makeup and began hiring her for headshot shoots. When I first began doing pet photography, she and her wife Kate bought one of my first big pieces for their family of four dogs. That was a very memorable shoot because it was the first time I had four sets of eyes looking at me all at once. It happened on the second shot. I thought pet photography was easy. Maybe not easy, but very fulfilling. It's my favorite thing ever.I'm working on a new project now -- still involving dogs -- and I asked them to help me out ...

My client said she told her grandmother, the minute she could afford it, she was going to have a professional pet photography session for her pugs Louie and Rhoda. And my friends, that is exactly what she conjured up.Risa wanted more formal portraits with backdrops for her pair of pugs... brother and sister, actually. So I brought the brown hand-painted backdrop along with red and bone seamless papers, the latter of which made for tone-on-tone portraits. We set up the studio in Risa's mother's home and off to the races we went. Now I really enjoy pugs. They are so expressive. Their eyes like big marbles... their black, snub noses. Yes, I know there is controversy about the brachycephalic ...

I already wrote about how I'm currently away from my worldwide headquarters because of a house remodel. I'm staying at a residential hotel in Woodland Hills, which is about 10 miles from my home. We've been exploring the neighborhood and my partner found Serrania Park just a short five minute drive away from us. It has a huge area where dogs are free to catch balls and flying discs. It also has hiking trails and a paved path around the perimeter, which I've been walking in the morning.Just as I enter the park, there is a small grassy hill and I've been thinking it's a great place to photograph a dog. So I thought maybe the park would be good for sunset shots. It turns out the area where the ...

Roger came to his present owners because his previous ones could no longer care for him for their own health reasons. But I'm telling you, Roger hit the jackpot on his second family because he is one loved guy! His dad Adam originally called me in September of last year to see if I could shoot Roger as a surprise birthday present for his wife Katie. Sure, I could do the shoot but I was leaving for London the day after the shoot and anything he ordered wouldn't be ready by her birthday, that Saturday.Instead I recommended he get a gift certificate and his wife could be in the shoot. Sold! But it took a while for the shoot to happen. Both are in the entertainment industry and working on shows, ...

My Personal Update

So... it's been a hectic time here at my worldwide headquarters. And that's because I vacated my worldwide headquarters. After 24 years, I'm not living in my house. No, no, not because I defaulted on my mortgage or got a divorce or got a job in a new state. No, my friends, my house is being remodeled. After an inheritance left my family with a little bit of extra money, we decided to embark on updating our house.Sure, we've done some things over the years. New roof, driveway, repaint, new bathrooms and kitchen. But we've never undergone a whole house renovation and that's where we're at now.And that's meant a lot of packing and a lot of storage and lot of discarding. A lot. I had a very ...
