A DTLA Pet Photography Shoot

A really fun type of photo shoot is exploring different parts of the city with the owners and their dogs and my session with Eddy and Phoebe was a particularly enjoyable one. We started at NoMad in downtown Los Angeles. Except for a few shots in the bar, in which I believe Phoebe, the golden doodle was a little under age, we couldn't use flash in the rest of the hotel though we were allowed to shoot. And even though it was bright daylight outside, it was dark inside which made it more challenging without the extra lighting.Eddy ordered a Manhattan for himself and Phoebe stuck to water... once we photographed the bar area, we went to the seating area in front of the restaurant, then went ...

The Cone of Shame, Part II

A DTLA Pet Photography Shoot

You might recall from a while back that I photographed images for KVP International's catalog... yes, the maker of the cone of shame. Well, oops, I did it again. The shoot took place in Malibu where we met before the sun came up along with rangers who let us in the gates. That's what you get when you have a permitted shoot. No hassle and needed amenities, like parking on the grounds. For the previous year, we photographed among the hills of Malibu... golden grasses, mountains, oaks. Very wild California. For this year's catalog, we were at Carrillo State Beach. We had a blast... the dogs took to their cones like trained models... they weren't but they didn't need to be. And we got photos in ...

A DTLA Pet Photography Shoot

Anyone who has been around these pages for a while knows -- or probably knows me from -- my Ice Cream Social for Dogs. Well, it's back on at four locations over the summer! But if you've done one before, why would you want to do one again? Because I just signed a book contract for a book on Dogs Eating Ice Cream! That's right, a book! And your dog may get to be in it, if I have any say (I'm pretty sure I have some say!) And if you've never done one before, you and your dog are in for a real treat. The Ice Cream Social for Dogs is only $29, which includes an 8x10 print and its digital files and of course, the doggy ice cream and the shoot itself. I'll have other options to purchase for on the ...

A DTLA Pet Photography Shoot

My previous post of my composite image Phoebe at Sea met with a little flack, to tell you the truth. I know, some of it had to have been in jest, but I had a few people concerned that Phoebe wasn't going to make it out alive. That her kind of dog sort of sinks, not swims. She was too far from shore. She needed a rescue boat or a piece of the shore in view. She was from the Titanic. (Huh?)She was rescued, I tell you, rescued! Rescue dogs are rescued and Phoebe is a rescue dog!!! Originally from a bad breeder, she's now living the dream!Plus, it's a make believe image, I don't have to tell you that.So shortly on the heels of Phoebe at Sea, I created one with my cat Kiwi. Now I'm not playing ...

The First Rule of Fight Club...

A DTLA Pet Photography Shoot

I recently photographed four Savannah cats and a kitten for a client. There were four dogs involved, too, but we won't go there. It's not necessary to talk about them on a Savannah Fight Club post. The First Rule of Savannah Fight Club... you don't talk about dogs.Anyhow, Savannahs are a little wild, you know. They're a cross between an African serval and a domestic cat. They're gorgeous. Long legs, beautifully spotted fur. And they can be a little tough. As one of my friends says, cats play with feather toys. Savannahs destroy them. The whole shoot was on gray seamless paper. To get their attention, we brought out a few feathered toys. The Savannahs liked that. So we ended up getting a lot ...
